Town Centre

There a number of estates dotted around the centre.

  • Greenbank Crescent is a small, compact estate built in the 1930s. All amenities, transport and shopping are close at hand as the area is situated not more than five minutes walk away from the town centre.
  • Westfield Street is also close to the town centre and has a variety of properties from two and three bed houses to one and two bed flats. Some of the flats are sheltered accommodation. Amenities are easily accessible.
  • Duke Street Estate is similar to the Westfield Street estate and is only five minutes walk away from the town centre.
  • Borough Road comprises of a small number of traditional two and three bed houses. The area is 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre.
  • Carlton Terrace has a very small number of terraced houses built in the early part of the century. Again it is just a short walk to the town centre.
  • Hardshaw Street is right in the centre of town and comprises of two and three bed terraced houses built in the early part of last century.
  • Gerards Bridge has a mix of properties. There are two and three bedroom, two storey and three storey houses and one-bed sheltered flats plus one and two bed flats on Queen Street. The estate has an open plan design and is situated very close to the town centre.
  • Cooper Street was built in the 1980s and comprises solely of Category II sheltered accommodation. They are all modern bungalows, many of which are adapted for disabled people. The area is well situated, approximately five minutes walk from the town centre.

Hard Lane

This is a fairly compact estate of traditional houses built around the 1950s. It consists of mainly two and three bed houses with a small number of bedsits which are category 1 sheltered. There are a few shops in the locality and the estate is on a bus route to the Town Centre with buses running frequently.

Windlehurst

This estate is a mixture of properties ranging from two and three bed houses, blocks of flats and bungalows which are designated as sheltered accommodation. The estate is very similar to the Hard Lane estate and the two estates are adjacent to one another.

Eccleston

  • Gillars Green is a compact estate on the boundary of the “green belt”. It is a mixture of one, two and three bed flats, one and two bed bungalows and three bed family housing on an open plan design. There is a mixture of shops in the centre of the estate. There is also a regular bus service, two infant and junior schools not more than five minutes walk from any point of the estate.
  • Pinfold Estate is also situated in Eccleston. Properties on the estate include three bed family housing and a sheltered housing scheme of one bed flats with a warden. It has good public transport and is very close to infant and junior schools.
  • Old Eccleston was built in the 1930's and is made up of semi-detached houses and six bungalows.

There are two infant and junior schools situated on the boundary of the estate which has good public transport.

Rainford

There are a number of different properties in this area. There is a range of two and three bed houses and there is also one bed flats. There are several bungalows, the majority of which are sheltered accommodation. The properties are in and around the Springfield and Rainford Village centre and access to amenities are good. There is a regular bus service to St Helens town centre from the area.

Fingerpost

This area has a number of different types of estates.

  • Langtree Street area is an area of relatively new houses close to the Fingerpost shopping area. There are a small number of pre-war houses also.
  • Jackson Street consists of pre-war houses.
  • Wood Street/O’Keefe Road properties consist of two and three bed, pre-war terraced and semi-detached houses.
  • Park View (Robinson Place etc) was built in the 1970s. It consists of two and three bed terraced houses. There are a few 3 bed houses that are built on three storeys. Some of the properties have car parking facilities. Car parking is also available at various locations on the estate.
  • Park Road is a 1970s development of two and three bed houses with open plan fronts.
  • Recreation Street is made up of pre-war, semi-detached, three bed houses.
  • Parr Mount Court is a complex of flats on three floors. The ground floor is sheltered, Category II and the first and second floors are sheltered, Category I, some flats are also provided with an extra care scheme.  There is a warden in charge of the ground floor. There is also a community centre for the use of all residents and a lift to all floors.
  • Sorogold Street is a small estate comprising of 21 bungalows and 8 houses, one of which has been adapted for a wheelchair user.

All of these estates are within walking distance of the Fingerpost centre where there is a good array of shops. They are also close to primary and junior schools and all are near to a bus route.
